National Shrimp Festival canceled because of Isaias

The four-day festival at Gulf Place was scheduled for Oct. 8-11.

The Coastal Alabama Business Chamber canceled the Annual National Shrimp Festival because of Tropical Storm Isaias, according to a statement posted on the tourism bureau's festival page. "Event organizers made every effort to move forward with the festival this year," the chamber said, citing the forecast of high winds, heavy surf and rain through the weekend.

The festival had been scheduled for Thursday through Sunday at Gulf Shores' main public beach, and road closures for setup began Monday around Hwy. 59 and Beach Blvd. Check the City of Gulf Shores for when those roads reopen.
