Kids Park rebuild approved; construction shifts to early 2027
The council approved a design by Leathers and Associates and a total budget of $1.1 million.
The Gulf Shores City Council approved the redesign of Kids Park, the playground built in 1996, at its Sept. 28 meeting. The plan, developed by Leathers and Associates with input from families and students, adds more accessible and sensory-rich play features and uses mostly recycled plastic lumber the city expects to last at least 30 years.
Construction moves to early 2027 so families can keep using the current playground through Christmas break. The 2026 capital budget included $950,000; another $150,000 for engineered wood fiber and artificial turf surfacing brings the total to $1.1 million.
