Gulf Shores Fire Rescue opens a training ground built from shipping containers
The facility includes a burn building, a four-story tower, a trench box and a confined-space maze.
Gulf Shores cut the ribbon Sept. 22 on a fire training facility built largely from shipping containers. Firefighters built the two-story burn building from seven containers; the four-story training tower uses 12 containers and has more than 3,800 square feet of enclosed space, with floors set up like homes, hotel hallways and a beachfront condo with an open balcony.
The site also has a trench-rescue box designed with Mobile Fire-Rescue Division Chief Scott Carmichael and a three-level confined-space maze inside a single 40-foot container.
